In addition to perusing the Holocaust-themed pictures and artwork (some pieces created by our own Janet Ganes), the eclectic group of students got to hear about the history of anti-semitism, as well as a personal story from survivor, Mr. Irving Roth. The students were captivated by Mr. Roth's experience pre-war and in Auschwitz and Buchenwald. They learned how anti-antisemitism effected many on grand level, but also how it effected Mr. Roth on a personal level in terms of his relationship with a classmate and his father's business partner. Mr. Roth left our students with the message of the importance of standing up against, hatred, violence, and ignorance via practical tips and inspiring words of hope.

This is a video that gives valuable info about the Holocaust Resource Center in Manhasset. On a field trip on January 10th, 48 LHS students listened to testimony by Irving Roth, a survivor of the Auschwitz concentration camp.
Monday marks the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz.

We also want to praise our students for their behavior on the trip; they were extremely patient and attentive as Mr. Roth spoke. Additionally, the owner of one of the pizza shops in our Lawrence community that we took them to for lunch afterward commented how respectful they were. We are so proud of their maturity.
