On December 13, 2019, we were fortunate enough to get a visit from the Book Fairies! Every student within the middle school was provided with time to visit the school library with their classroom teacher to "shop" through the book fair. Similar to a traditional book fair, students were able to view a wide variety of genres. However, what makes the book fairies special is every student is able to pick 2 brand new or like new books to start their own home libraries for free! Thank you to Mrs. Tariq for bringing this wonderful organization to Lawrence Middle School and providing our students with this opportunity.
Please read on to hear the wonderful impact this organization has had on supporting literacy.
“Since 2012, The Book Fairies has worked to collect gently used reading materials through book drives with schools, corporations and organizations. The books are then brought back to our warehouse where volunteers carefully sort through the books, checking them for age and condition and then categorizing them. Over the last 7 years, we have distributed 2 million gently used books to schools and community organizations working with high need populations. At The Book Fairies, we believe that providing access to age appropriate, engaging reading materials is essential to fighting illiteracy.”
