LAWRENCE, NEW YORK (FEBRUARY 2025)—Lawrence UPK proudly celebrates Black History Month, a time dedicated to recognizing and honoring the achievements and contributions of Black individuals throughout history. This month, Lawrence UPK is focusing on learning about iconic figures who have made impacts in fields ranging from space exploration to civil rights.

As part of the celebration, students, staff, and community members have been diving into the lives and legacies of remarkable individuals, starting with the pioneering achievements of Mae Jemison and Ruby Bridges.

“We are proud to celebrate the extraordinary accomplishments of Mae Jemison, Ruby Bridges, and countless others during Black History Month,” said Patricia Almonaitis, Lawrence UPK supervisor. “Their stories teach us about the struggles Black Americans faced, and demonstrate the immense strength, intelligence, and spirit that helped shape our society. At LUPK, we are committed to fostering a deeper understanding of these pivotal moments in history and encouraging the next generation to keep pushing boundaries in their own lives.”

Throughout February, LUPK will continue to educate and engage the community through a variety of activities, including workshops, discussions, and special events. These efforts aim to promote learning and celebrate the importance of Black history, ensuring that these important contributions are never forgotten.
