LAWRENCE, NEW YORK (NOVEMBER 2025)— Lawrence Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) was thrilled to welcome the Inwood Fire Department for a special visit that sparked excitement and learning among our youngest students.

The firefighters brought a hands-on experience that helped students understand the important role they play in keeping our community safe. Children had the opportunity to explore real fire trucks, ambulances, and even an aerial ladder up close, sparking both wonder and curiosity.

During the visit, the firefighters demonstrated the special protective clothing and life-saving tools they use every day. Students learned how these brave heroes stay safe while helping others during emergencies. It was a powerful and memorable way to introduce young learners to fire safety in a friendly and accessible way.

Following the visit, classrooms buzzed with creativity as students completed projects reflecting what they learned about firefighters and fire safety. Through drawings, crafts, and storytelling, the children shared their newfound knowledge and appreciation for the fire department. "We’re so grateful to the Inwood Fire Department for taking the time to visit our school," said Patricia Almonaitis, Director at Lawrence UPK. "Their demonstration not only taught our students vital safety information, but also inspired admiration and respect for our local heroes."

Lawrence UPK is proud to partner with community organizations to provide meaningful, real-world learning experiences for students. The visit from the Inwood Fire Department was a shining example of community connection and early childhood education working hand-in-hand.
